Your playlists are yours

Playlists belong to your account. Save one in one server and you can play it in any other server that has Orpheus. Nobody else can see, play or change your playlists.

The limits:

• 50 playlists per person.
• 500 tracks per playlist.
• Names can be up to 60 characters. Capital letters don't count, so "Gym Mix" and "gym mix" are the same playlist, and extra spaces are squashed. You can't use the names "all", "none", "queue" or "current".

Save what's queued

/playlist save name: friday saves the track playing now plus everything queued after it.

If you already have a playlist with that name, Orpheus replaces it without asking. That's how you update a playlist: edit the queue, then save it again under the same name.

Saving stores the exact tracks that were in the queue, so when you play the playlist later it plays those same uploads without searching for them again.

If some tracks weren't saved, the reply says why:

• Orpheus hadn't looked them up yet. It queues some tracks by name and looks each one up only when it comes up to play, such as a Spotify playlist queued while Spotify wasn't answering. Until then there's nothing to save.
• The queue was longer than a playlist holds, so Orpheus left out anything past 500 tracks.

Save the song that's playing

Press Save on the player card, beside Like. A private menu lists your playlists, the ones you changed most recently first. Pick one and the song goes on the end of it. Pick New playlist…, type a name, and Orpheus makes that playlist with the song already in it. If you don't have any playlists yet, it asks for the name straight away.

You don't need to be in the voice channel for this, and the DJ role doesn't limit it, because saving only changes your own playlists.

/playlist add name: friday does the same thing by name. If you don't have a playlist called friday, it makes one.

• If the song is already in that playlist, Orpheus tells you it's already there and doesn't add it again.
• If the playlist is full at 500 tracks, or you'd need a 51st playlist, Orpheus saves nothing and the reply says why.
• The menu shows your 24 most recently changed playlists. For any other, use /playlist add.
• Orpheus keeps the song you pressed Save on for 15 minutes, so the next song starting while you choose doesn't change what gets saved.

Orpheus stores the exact track, the same as /playlist save, so playing it later doesn't search for it again.

Export a playlist

/playlist export name: friday sends you the playlist as a file that only you can see. You don't need an account anywhere else. Choose a format:

• CSV, the default, has a column each for track name, artist name, album, duration in seconds, ISRC, the link it plays from, and the playlist name. Soundiiz reads these column names, and they're the ones TuneMyMusic writes in its own CSV export.
• Plain text has one "Artist - Title" per line. Soundiiz accepts a list like this pasted in.
• M3U lists the link each track plays from.

For a YouTube upload, Orpheus takes the artist's name off the front of the title and removes tags like "(Official Video)". That gives a transfer site a better chance of finding the song.

Album and ISRC are only there when Orpheus already has them. Tracks that came from Spotify carry both. A song whose release details the dashboard's player page found in the last few hours has them too. Orpheus looks nothing up to make the file, and the reply says how many tracks have each.

Play one

/playlist play name: friday adds the whole playlist to the queue in the server you're in. You need to be in a voice channel. The name box suggests your playlists and shows how many tracks each has.

Playing a playlist adds to the end of the queue and doesn't clear anything. If a saved track can't be loaded any more, the reply tells you how many were skipped.

Look after them

• /playlist list shows your playlists, 15 at a time, and how many of your 50 you've used.
• /playlist show name: shows the first 15 tracks and the total.
• /playlist delete name: deletes one.

Import from a link

/playlist import link: <url> saves a playlist from Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud or Bandcamp. Add name: to call it something else; otherwise it uses the playlist's own name. Apple Music links don't work.

• The playlist has to be public. Private and collaborative playlists come back empty, and Orpheus tells you so.
• Reading a long playlist can take a minute or two. Orpheus waits up to two and a half minutes before giving up.
• One import holds up to 200 tracks. If a link has more, Orpheus asks whether to import all of it as several playlists or only the first 200. It names the extra playlists "friday (2)", "friday (3)" and so on, skipping names you already use. Only the person who ran the command can press the buttons, and the offer lasts 10 minutes.
• An import reads at most 500 tracks from one link. Orpheus leaves out anything past that and tells you, with the number when it knows how long the link is.
• Spotify only gives Orpheus the first 200 tracks of a playlist. The reply to a longer one says that's the most one import can bring in.
• Importing over an existing name replaces that playlist. The first part of a split import uses the name you gave, even if it exists. Later parts never overwrite anything.
• Your limit of 50 playlists still applies. If a split import needs more playlists than you have room for, the reply says how many tracks didn't fit.

Playing a playlist link without saving it

/play with a playlist or album link queues up to 200 tracks and doesn't save anything.

On the dashboard

On the dashboard, the Your playlists page lets you import a playlist from a link (up to 200 tracks) and see what's in each one. You can also export, delete or play one in a server you choose. Export offers the same CSV, plain text and M3U files as /playlist export and downloads the file.

The dashboard's player page has a Save button too. It lists your playlists and has a box for a new one, and it works whether or not you're in the voice channel.
