Controls and permissions
Who can skip, stop and change things, how the DJ role works, and which commands need Manage Server.
Anyone in the channel, by default
Out of the box, anyone in the voice channel with Orpheus can use every playback control. There's no skip voting: a skip happens as soon as someone presses it.
Being in the voice channel
Most controls need you to be in the same voice channel as Orpheus. That covers every button on the player card, and these commands:
/skip, /pause, /resume, /stop, /seek, /queue, /nowplaying, /lyrics, /remove, /move, /clear, /shuffle, /loop, /volume, /filter, /dislike, and /radio when something is already playing.
If you're somewhere else you'll get "You need to be in the voice channel with me."
Commands that add music need you to be in a voice channel: /play, a /search pick, /playlist play, /liked play and /radio. While Orpheus has a track on, even a paused one, you need to be in its channel, or you get the same message. When nothing is on, Orpheus joins your channel, and moves over if it's sitting idle in a different one.
/like only needs something to be playing.
The DJ role
A DJ role limits who can interrupt what everyone else is listening to. It's off unless someone sets one.
/dj role: @DJsets it./dj off: Trueremoves it./djon its own tells you the current setting.
/dj needs Manage Server by default. You can also set the role by its ID on the dashboard's Settings page.
Who still counts as a DJ
Even with a DJ role set, these people can use the limited controls:
- Anyone with the DJ role.
- Anyone with Manage Server, so they can't lock themselves out.
- Anyone who is the only person in the voice channel. Bots don't count, and with nobody else listening there's nobody to interrupt.
- The person who queued the current track, for skipping it and the other interrupting actions below. They can't stop playback for everyone, though.
What the DJ role limits

What anyone can still do
- Add music with
/play,/search,/playlist playand/liked play. - Look at what's on with
/queue, the Queue button,/nowplayingand/lyrics. - Like a track with the Like button or
/like. - Save the playing song to their own playlists with the Save button or
/playlist add. Neither needs the voice channel.
/dislike and the Not for me button are limited by the DJ role, because they skip the track for everyone as well as blocking it.
Admin commands
These commands change the server's settings, so they need Manage Server by default:
/247/autoplay/dj/channel/skipsegments/unblock
That's only the default. Someone with Manage Server can let other roles use any of them in Server Settings, under Integrations, then Orpheus.
Two things work a bit differently:
/volumeis open to everyone, subject to the DJ role, but itsremember: Trueoption saves the volume as the server default and needs Manage Server. Without it, the volume still changes for now and the reply tells you it wasn't saved.- The Autoplay button on the player card is open to everyone in the channel, subject to the DJ role, even though
/autoplayneeds Manage Server.
Effects when the audio server is busy
When the audio server is busy, Orpheus can refuse a new filter for a few minutes, even for someone allowed to use /filter. That's the same for everyone, including DJs and people with Manage Server. Orpheus tells you why, and the music keeps playing. Turning a filter off always works, and volume changes always work. More in Sound and settings.
On the dashboard
The dashboard follows the same rules. You have to be in the voice channel with Orpheus to control playback from the website, and the DJ role applies there too. Having Manage Server doesn't let you control a voice channel you're not in. See The dashboard.
