How to import a Spotify playlist into Discord

To bring a Spotify playlist into Discord, you give a music bot the playlist's link. Orpheus reads the song list and saves it to your account, so you can play it in any server that has Orpheus.

Before you start

  • Add Orpheus to your server. You need Manage Server there.
  • The playlist has to be public. Orpheus can't read a private or collaborative playlist: the import comes back empty, and Orpheus tells you so.

Import the playlist

  1. In Spotify, open the playlist, choose Share, and copy the link to the playlist.
  2. In Discord, type /playlist import and paste the link into the link option.
  3. The playlist keeps its Spotify name. To pick your own, add name:. Importing over a name you already use replaces that playlist.
  4. Join a voice channel and play it with /playlist play name: friday. The name box suggests your playlists as you type.

The playlist belongs to your account, so /playlist play works in every server with Orpheus. You can keep 50 playlists, with up to 500 songs each.

A playlist longer than 200 songs

One import brings in up to 200 songs. If the playlist is longer, Orpheus offers to split it across several playlists, named like "friday (2)" and "friday (3)". Each of them is a normal playlist you can play, edit and delete on its own.

Import several playlists at once

On the dashboard, open Playlists and press Find my Spotify playlists. Discord asks for one extra permission, which lets Orpheus see the Spotify account you linked to Discord. Orpheus lists that account's public playlists, and you tick the ones to import. Each import has the same limits as the command.

If you haven't linked Spotify to Discord, paste your Spotify profile link there instead.

Keep it up to date

A playlist you imported doesn't change when you edit it in Spotify. Run /playlist sync name: to read it again: songs you added in Spotify are added, and songs you removed there are removed. The dashboard has a Sync again button for the same thing.

If the import comes back empty

  • The playlist is private or collaborative. In Spotify, make it public, copy its link again and run the import again.
  • The link isn't a playlist. Albums and single songs go straight to the queue with /play, and an album or playlist link there queues up to 200 songs.

/playlist import also takes public playlists from SoundCloud and Bandcamp, and playlists and albums from Apple Music, and albums from Amazon Music. Apple Music and Amazon Music imports bring in up to 40 songs, because each song is looked up by name and checked.

To go the other way, /playlist export sends you a playlist as a file only you can see: CSV, plain text, M3U, or a list of Spotify links. The playlists docs have every command.

Add Orpheus to your server

Free to add. It asks only for the permissions it uses, never Administrator.
